CRANE OPERATOR

Description:

You will serve as a CRANE OPERATOR in the RIGGING AND EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT at the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Making precise load placements where exact movements must be made to position the l oad accurately and safely. Making rapid lift capacity judgements during continual position changes. Operating near, or at, a crane's lifting capacity within congested areas. Directing the work of other workers, such as oilers. Operating a crane to move heavy equipment and machinery, ship structures and components, steel beams, and/or lumber. Maintaining crane equipment and cleaning working parts of a crane.
