Description:

Firefighters protect CIA personnel, facilities, and information by providing fire suppression, prevention, emergency rescue, and provision of emergency medical assistance.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications Up to a maximum thirty-seven (37) years of age at time of appointment, unless the candidate has prior Federal service in a FERS-Special covered Firefighter or Law Enforcement position Physically and psychologically fit with the ability to lift, carry, and otherwise move and utilize heavy fire/rescue/emergency medical equipment and individuals Ability to apply judgment and deductive reasoning to information about fire situations, recognize the relevancy of each item of information, reach logical conclusions, and adopt an effective course of action using accepted techniques Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions Ability to utilize basic computer software to document activities and information Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both orally and in writing Ability to perform basic administrative activities Ability to think clearly; respond immediately; and act quickly, calmly, and effectively in emergency situations Ability to work from heights Ability to wear breathing apparatus; climb ladders; and work in confined spaces, toxic atmospheres, and extreme heat Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel at the station, other firefighters, volunteers, and the public Ability to meet the minimum requirements for joining CIA, including U.S. citizenship and a background investigation

The following licenses/certifications/coursework are required at time of appointment to position and must be maintained during appointment. Out-of-state fire certification must be recognized by the PRO Board, and EMS certifications must be recognized by the Virginia Department of Health, Office of EMS.

Must possess a valid driver's license and must be maintained during appointment to position Emergency Medical Technician Firefighter Professional Level I & II (NFPA 1001) Three (3) years of experience in Emergency Services Desired Qualifications Five (5) years of experience as an active member of an organized Fire/EMS department (including Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service) Certifications in the following areas: Regional Fire Academy Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, S-3 (NFPA 1002) Driver Pump Operator (DPO) Driver Aerial Operator (DAO) Fire Instructor I Fire Officer I Fire Inspector I Vehicle Rescue Level 1 / Operations HTR Rope Rescue 1 / Operations Phase 2 HTR Confined Space Rescue II / Technician Hazardous Materials Technician (NFPA 472) Airport Rescue Firefighter (NFPA 1003-15) FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800, 300, 400 Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate or Paramedic Experience in developing and maintaining skills in fire procedures, HAZMAT, & emergency medical aid Working knowledge of firefighting, hazardous material spills containment, and rescue and emergency medical care practices techniques and methods Working knowledge of fire, rescue, and emergency medical service apparatus and equipment and ability to make minor equipment repairs and adjustments to such equipment Working knowledge of topography of area, street and hydrant locations, response routes, location of police, fire, rescue and other emergency services of adjacent jurisdictions, and other information necessary for the effective and efficient dispatch of fire, rescue, and emergency medical services Working knowledge of safety procedures associated with the operation of fire apparatus and aircraft-crash and rescue vehicles Working knowledge of building construction Working knowledge of mechanics and hydraulics Experience driving Fire Department and/or EMS vehicles and operating associated firefighter equipment Considerable skill in developing and presenting student training in firefighting and rescue and emergency care practices, methods, and techniques
