This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the followingcomprehensive knowledge of operating electronic principles to troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain malfunctions in complex electronic systems to include:

1) Interpreting complex drawings,specifications, and schematics of complete systems to specifically include the operation of fire alarm systems;
2) Reading and understanding circuit diagrams, cable route prints, and lines route map;
3) Troubleshooting and repairing difficult electrical problem by utilizing sound knowledge of the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code;
4) Reading and understanding the various types of wiring diagrams, sketches, blue prints and drawings; and
5) Troubleshooting and diagnosing non-functional or malfunctioning alarm systems and consoles, isolating any defective electronic components using meter, probes and other electrical/electronic test equipment.

Must have a journeyman level knowledge of the trade theory, principles and practices of the following trades:
- A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualification for FPS such as NICET;
- A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire alarm systems, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs;
- A qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction.

Preferred knowledge of UFC 3-601-02, Operations and Maintenance: Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Fire Protection Systems, NFPA 72 and NFPA 25.
