Who May Apply: US CitizensIn order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.
Specialized Experience for the GS-6: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is defined as 1. Conducting maintenance, both routine and operation of all assigned weapons and related equipment (e.g., handguns, shotguns, police baton, and handcuffs), 2. Implementing law enforcement policies, procedures, and techniques, operating a variety of communication and electronics; AND 3. Utilizing surveillance systems and equipment such as radios, transmitters, CCTVs and intrusion detection systems. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
