The position is located in the VAMC Pittsburgh Laboratory. The incumbent is an integral part of the team, and many times is the initial contact for the Laboratory customers. They provide clinical and administrative support to a wide variety of departments in the Laboratory. The position reports to the Supervisor of Phlebotomy/Processing.Requirements:
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/30/2024.You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
- Specialized and General Experience: Six months of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-3 level) that demonstrates technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings. AND Six months of general experience that includes any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. The total amount of experience must equal a FULL YEAR. OR
- Education: Successful completion of:
- (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency;
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Requires flexibility with hours of work and shift tour of duty. May work other tours if asked to work in other areas and does not affect primary work schedule. The work involves long periods of standing and walking with regular recurring bending, lifting, and positioning patients. It also involves computer, keyboard, and telephone work.
