The Mental Health Residential Treatment Program (MHRRTP) Registered Nurse (RN) functions directly to support the activities of the St. Cloud VA Health Care System RRTP. The RN is responsible for the planning, integrating, implementing, modifying and evaluating the effectiveness of the Veteran's care.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by one of the following accrediting organizations at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing ( ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Mental Health experience preferred Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no professional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and 1 year of specialized nursing practice/experience equivalent to a Nurse 1, Level 1; OR OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and 2 years of professional nursing practice/experience, one of which is a year of specialized experience equivalent to Nurse 1, Level 2; OR a BSN with 1 year of Professional nursing practice/experience equivalent to Nurse 1, level 2; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) with no professional nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with not professional nursing experience. Nurse II - A BSN with 2 years of professional nursing practice/experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse 1, Level 3.; OR a Master's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3.; OR Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3; OR Doctorate degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience; OR a Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing with two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Doctorate degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III. Dimension Requirement for Nurse III. Nurses at Nurse III must meet ALL the following dimension requirements to qualify for Nurse III. Practice. Demonstrates expertise in professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation) with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Veteran/Patient Driven Care. Leads initiatives to improve Veteran/patient experience. Satisfaction and/or safety beyond the immediate practice setting. Leadership. Communicates and collaborates as an effective leader of the interprofessional team, at the expert level, with improved evidence-based and/or data-driven outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Professional Development. Enhances knowledge base and practice evaluation, at the expert level, with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Evidence Based Practice/Research. Leads the identification and integration of evidence-based practice/research with clinical expertise to improve quality of care and resource utilization at the expert level with improved outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting. Physical Requirements: Lifting 45+ pounds. Carrying of 15-44 pounds. Reaching above the shoulder. Use of fingers and hands. Prolonged walking and standing. Crawling and kneeling. Intermittent repeated bending. Use of both legs. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 12" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Hearing (aid permitted). Ability to work around moving objects or vehicles. Ability to work closely with others. Protracted or irregular hours of work. Ability to handle hazardous drugs.
