This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of WG-6600 Armament Work Family without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Ability to use special and standard test equipment, support equipment, maintenance stands, gauges, measuring devices and hand tools. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. Ability to communicate both orally and written and to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Knowledge of Time Change requirements and processes and a variety of technical data such as manufacturer's handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto. Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time and attendance, budgeting instructions, guidelines, requirements and basic computer applications and usage. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures and the safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. Other significant facts: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy lifting (45-79 lbs.). Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.). Light lifting (under 15 lbs.). Moderate carrying (14-55 lbs.). Light carrying (under 15 lbs.). Required to do straight pulling, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, bending, kneeling, reaching above shoulders and climbing. Working in cramped and strained positions. Operation of crane, truck, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Hearing (without aid). All personnel SHALL receive a near vision acuity test, either: Jeager No.1 at no less than 12 inches (30.48 cm) or 20/25(Snellen) at 16" (40.64 cm) 1" (2.54 cm), annually while certified. The near vision test is required for only one eye natural or corrected. When vision correction is necessary to pass the visual acuity exam, vision SHALL be work during all inspections. All personnel SHALL receive a color perception test prior to initial certification. If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids ( oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, hazardous fluids, particulates, and gases). Commonly works with explosives systems and components. Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, explosive hazards and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye/body damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others or working alone.???????

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
