Employee will serve as a Tools and Parts Attendant aligned within Environmental Management Service (EMS) located at the Veterans Healthcare System in Saint Louis, MO. This announcement will support vacancies at both the John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks divisions, tracking and ensuring equipment utilized for housekeeping is in good working order.

Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Performs work on hard surfaces and in areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries tools, parts, supplies, and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds. Hand trucks, dollies, and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items.

Work is generally done in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally works in inside areas that are drafty and sometimes dirty, dusty, and greasy. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume.

SCREEN-OUT: Ability to do the work of a Tools and Parts Attendant without more than normal supervision. Required experience includes working in a supply room with housekeeping equipment, tools and supplies, storing incoming stock and conducting inventory to assure availability of items/stock to be issued to housekeepers and to maintain an accounting of items returned by the housekeeper. I have used hand trucks and dollies to move stock, as well as pliers, screwdrivers, and other simple hand tools to maintain and repair equipment used in sanitation operations (replace handles, change blades, grease and oil powered equipment, etc.), and have entered electronic work orders for more complex repairs needed.
