Description:

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Region in Gallup, New Mexico to perform and coordinate hydrologic studies and interpret hydrologic conditions to define, analyze, and forecast.

INDIVDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels.

B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following:

GS-09: 1 year of specialized experience to at least the GS-7 grade level. Examples of qualifying specialized experience which involves using relational databases and related applications to maintain hydrologic data for conducting operational support and planning analyses; performs a range of standard tests to determine the chemical and/or biological components of water samples; plan and performs a wide range of data collection assignments; provide technical advice and information on water resource problems OR 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.

GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience to at least the GS-9 grade level Examples of qualifying specialized experience which involves to collect and evaluate hydrologic data; use comprehensive process or computer models to conduct and simulate hydrologic analysis; work on complex water issues of hydrology and related disciplines such as hydraulics, geology, geochemistry and the complexities of ground or surface water flow; works with State, local and/or tribal land managers to advise on water resources management practices consistent with Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Federal Land Management Policy Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act OR 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.

The full performance level of this position is GS-11.
