About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mechanical Equipment Repairer (Direct Hiring Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision. Removing spark plugs and draining fuel systems. I can operate powered equipment, perform mechanical repairs, test equipment to ensure equipment standards are met, and utilize hand tools to complete mechanical repairs. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work assignments involve standing and working on concrete and asphalt for long periods, climbing, reaching, sitting, laying, bending, and occasionally working in cramped, awkward positions. Continuously uses hand and arm dexterity. Pulls, pushes, and lifts items weighing up to 45 pounds. For heavier items, two or more workers lift or move. Working Conditions: Works inside in warehouse shops that are occasionally hot, cold, damp or drafty. Works outside frequently in all types of weather. Subject to cuts and abrasions when using tools and is exposed to grease, oil, dirt, acids, paints, etc. Must observe existing safety rules related to wearing of protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes and wearing of helmets and earplugs assisting crane operator.
