Description:

This position is located in the Facility Management Department within the Division of Administrative Services at the Crownpoint Healthcare Facility. The purpose of this position is to perform general physical work and labor oriented tasks and duties such as gardening/ landscaping requiring physical abilities and recurring effort and involves some degree of specialized manual skill and prior work experience and/ or training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C.

Physical Effort: Requires very heavy physical effort such as frequently lifting, carrying heavy objects (over 50 lbs.). The work is subject to lifting and moving objects that weigh in excess of 50-70 lbs. with continual walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Assistance with heavier items is usually available from fellow workers.

Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to intense sunlight, wind, rain, snow, etc., as some time is required to work outdoors. Work areas may be wet and slippery. Buildings without elevators require extra physical effort for movement of supplies up and down stairs. May be exposed to drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. may be required to stand for long periods on concrete floors. Occasionally exposed to changes of injury associated with tools, equipment, and heavy objects.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTORS: Ability and manual skill to operate and maintain equipment and tools such as riding lawn mowers and walking mowers, chain saws, and heavy duty jacks or lifts. Ability to work with heavy tools such as axes, sledgehammer, picks and snow shovels and handles objects safely. Ability to read signs and manufacturers' instructions, follows oral and written directions, moves around well enough to work safely, lifts and moves heavy to very heavy weighted objects (over 50 lbs.). Incumbent needs to be able to write and read diagrams and operator instruction manuals. Basic knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks in fertilizing, trimming, and applying chemicals. Uses hand and power-operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, and sprayers. Requiring incumbent to possess a valid state's driver's license.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
