Job Description:
NDT Technician D will report to the Sr. Manager of Quality and Mission Assurance at the Jonesborough Tennessee location. The NDT Technician D will perform operations within the Metallurgical Laboratory in support of any and all production and Research & Development programs for the Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee facility. This position works to achieve operational targets within the job area which have impact on the overall achievement/results for the team and the site. This position may require the ability to work extended hours, overtime and/or provide support for weekend or off shift production schedules.
Essential Functions:
- General oversight and operation of the Metallurgical Lab including testing of materials for acceptance, ordering general laboratory supplies, and supporting Engineering on development efforts.
- Advanced set up and operation of metallurgical experimental and processing equipment.
- Collection and compilation of experimental data.
- Coordination of materials testing.
- Maintaining equipment assigned (MTS Tensile, SEM, Hardness tester, etc.)
- Performing documentation control.
- Prepare reports to for supervisor review.
- Make recommendations for solutions, as appropriate.
- Assist in undertaking first data reduction from experimental observations.
- Assist in experimental data recording.
- Perform receiving inspection in raw materials per direction of supervisor.
- Accept or reject material based on required specifications.
- Approve and issue metallurgical test reports.
- Place material on hold until inspection/testing is complete.
- Release accepted material for further processing.
- Release accepted material for further processing per direction of supervisor.
- Exercises sound judgement in the performance of daily duties.
- Communicates with others both inside and outside the department on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring explanation or interpretation to understand and reach an agreement.
- Train assigned personnel to perform as a back-up for Met Lab operations.
- Performing general housekeeping duties as required.
- May be required to provide assistance within other areas of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
- Demonstrated knowledge of metallurgical processing and testing techniques (Tensile Testing, Hardness testing, sample preparation, metallography charpy testing, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic mechanics and mathematics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general equipment maintenance.
- Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills and literacy.
- Ability to interface with all levels of personnel and work in a team environment.
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and techniques of instrumental analysis
- Technical writing skills are desired.
- Requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Chemical Laboratory experience a plus
