Description:

This position is located at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ) in Washington, D.C. NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the state and local levels. The incumbent develops, implements, analyzes, and disseminates a range of extramural and intramural social science research and evaluation projects.

Requirements:

Basic Entry Requirements:

Degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
-OR-
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates the acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include:

Applying advanced social and behavioral science methods, principles, concepts, practices, standards, and analytical techniques, in order to perform a wide range of qualitative and quantitative tasks for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness in the major focus areas of criminal justice systems. Conducting or assisting in specialized studies or evaluations of programs related to criminal justice systems, policing, courts, corrections or other related areas of practice. Serving as an expert in one or more topic areas related to criminal justice systems: policing, courts, corrections, or other related topic areas. Providing advice to Federal staff, practitioners, and researchers on the applications and legal implications of social and behavioral science to criminal justice systems, or related areas of practice.


Technical Qualifications:
Applicants who meet the basic entry and minimum qualification requirements, as described above, will be further evaluated on the following technical qualifications:

Ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate social or behavioral science studies Knowledge of a social or behavioral science field as applied to crime and justice issues Application of research principles, methods, and processes for systematic and objective inquiry Competence to analyze, understand, and advise others on technical and program management matters
