This position is located in Crater Lake National Park, in the Division of Resources Management and Fire.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

You must meet one of the following basic requirement AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Archeologist, 193 Basic Requirement - You must possess at least one of the three requirements: Degree: bachelor's or higher degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archeology; Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques; Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work AND Six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND Archeological field school. -OR- Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school). -OR- Combination: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education must be comparable in type, scope, and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described above. -OR- Experience: 4 years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. Cultural Anthropologist, GS-0190 Basic Requirement - You must possess at least one of the three: Degree: bachelor's or higher degree in appropriate field of anthropology Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education for a total of 4 years. The combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described above. Experience: 4 years of experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work. Historical Architecture, GS-0808 Basic Requirement - You must possess at least one of the two: EDUCATION: bachelor's or higher degree in architecture or a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least 30 semester hours were in architectural design, AND 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: 1) Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural with completed course work in architectural engineering, provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities. As a result, they may be more concerned with planning and design aspects of architecture, and persons with degrees in architectural engineering may be more engaged in aspects emphasizing technical engineering considerations. 2) Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had l year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture. - AND -
FOR ALL SERIES: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, you must meet the following to qualify for the GS-12 level: You must possess the following SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) directing a program of cultural resource management activities involving sensitive and complex issues that impact a wide variety of park and or recreation issues, 2) maintaining liaison with the State Historic Preservation Officer and Traditionally associated groups, 3) conducting or coordinating review of park projects to assure protection of cultural resources and in compliance with applicable federal laws; and 4) performing or directing substantive, project-oriented work in one of more of the professional fields mentioned above.
