Description:

This position is a Biological Science Technician (Fish), GS- 0404-5/6/7 working in Vernal, Utah for the R6-Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification.

Minimum Qualification [GS-5]
One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-4 in the Federal service. Experience must include care and feeding of all life stages of fish or freshwater mussels and collection and management of biological data. OR Have completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of courses must be directly related to the position such as fishery biology, ichthyology, limnology, aquaculture. NOTE: Transcripts are required (official or unofficial) to verify your education. OR A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement Minimum Qualification [GS-6] One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-4 in the Federal service. Experience must include assisting with the following tasks: 1) care and feeding of all life stages of fish or freshwater mussels, 2) monitoring fish health and applying therapeutics as recommended, 3) maintaining fish culture and water quality records, 4) maintaining and improving equipment 5) rearing, distribution and maintenance of eggs, fry, adults, and broodstock, 6) collect, process and inventory eggs, and 7) assisting with routine health assessments including: necropsies of morbid fish, collecting ovarian fluid samples, external examination of fish for parasites and collecting blood samples. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. OR Have successfully completed (1) full year of graduate level education (18 semester/27 quarter hours or the school's equivalent) leading to a Masters or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited college or university of that included courses directly related to the occupation, such as fishery biology, ichthyology, limnology, aquaculture. (NOTE: Transcripts are required). OR A combination of education and experience as described in 1 and 2 above which together equals 100% of the requirement Minimum Qualification [GS-7] One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-4 in the Federal service. NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. Specifically,
i. Area of Consideration.
ii. Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as specified in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502.
iv. Qualification requirements outlined in OPM's Qualifications Standards for General Schedule Positions or for Federal Wage System (FWS), wage grade positions, applicants are evaluated using the OPM Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations and the job element examining method
