In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; 2) Rescue operations; 3) Detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; 4)Operations of fire communications equipment; 5) Controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or 6)Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.

Additional Qualification Requirements:Must possess and maintain the following DoD Firefighter Certification levels: Firefighter I & Firefighter II, HAZMAT Operations, HAZMAT Technician, Driver Operator Pumper Certification, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (National or State) Certification. The DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program shall recognize and accept certification certificates from any entity accredited by the IFSAC or the Pro-Board only when the DoD employee has satisfied the required prerequisite certification level(s). Employees who have completed IFSAC or Pro-Board accredited training programs may request DoD equivalent certification certificates under the reciprocity provision of the certification program. The certificates being submitted for reciprocity must have the appropriate IFSAC or Pro-Board seal on them.

You must submit proof of the required referenced certifications AND proof of age with your application package, if your application package does not contain a copy of required certifications AND proof of age your application will be marked as incomplete and you WILL NOT receive any further consideration.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
