Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Welder without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Welder duties. I can fabricate, assemble, modify, or repair various metal and alloy parts. I can weld commonly used metals, including dissimilar ones of various sizes, shapes, and thickness. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Stands, walks, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and crawls. Works in awkward and cramped positions when welding in hard-to-reach places. Frequently handles objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds; and occasionally, handles objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Performs work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in hot weather, and in noisy, dirty, and smoky areas. Exposed to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, sparks, glare of torches, and heated materials. There is the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and cuts when working with sharp objects. There is discomfort from protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles.
