Description:

This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Pine Ridge Agency, Superintendent - Pine Ridge Agency, Branch of Land Operations, Natural Resources in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: ( OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0455: Range Technician Series).

GS-5: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) which involve monitoring range use conducting distribution and utilization studies, develop and maintain range improvements and investigates reports of trespass; assist in determining land status and pursues needed clearances for ownership approval and environmental analysis.
OR
EDUCATION: Four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown below for GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable.

GS-6: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-5 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector). This experience must include the following: work assisting with grazing permit administration; and work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing; range research activities; work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range; and range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience).
OR
EDUCATION: One (1) full academic year of graduate education in social sciences (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent).

GS-7: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) involved working with grazing permit administration; and Global Positioning System & Geographic Information System data. Work involving the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing; Range research activities; Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range; and range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience).
OR
EDUCATION: One (1) full academic year of graduate education in social sciences (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent).

SEASONAL EXPERIENCE: A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any period where the work exceeded 3 months, the excess work is credited towards an additional season of experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully function in the position. Possession of the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities can be evidenced by:*Work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing.*Range research activities.*Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range.*Range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work.
