This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DoD DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Under this authority, competitive rating/ranking and veteran's preference procedures do not apply.

About the Position: This position operates and maintains the industrial water collection systems, swimming pools, non-potable water systems, oil water separators, flood control systems, and integral parts.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common repairs and maintenance to service and install parts of industrial water collection system and collection system lift stations, non-potable water systems, oil water separators, cross connection or backflow preventers, flood control systems, and swimming pools and diagnose and analyze system components for functionality, maintenance and repair.

Physical Efforts:
Work requires you to work in strained positions while cleaning and repairing equipment. Work on ladders, in holes and frequently climbs stairs. Work requires pulling, pushing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, bending, considerable working while standing on concrete floors, and lifting in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms or in pits and manholes where parts of systems being repaired are in hard-to-reach places. Uses above average physical effort when turning valves, loading or unloading, stacking or emptying chemicals into feeders and storage areas. Carries 100-lb sacks or drums upstairs. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts, equipment or supplies weighing 100 lbs or more.

Work Conditions:
This position requires you to work inside and outside in all kinds of weather conditions including during storms with exposure to snow, rain, and wind. Work around and with high voltage equipment (440 volts) and exposed to hazardous materials when taking samples, cleaning and repairing equipment or shoveling sludge. Often exposed to gases and fumes such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, methane, gasoline, chlorine, ammonia, fluoride and other caustic and dangerous chemicals. Subject to falls on wet, slick concrete, into open tanks, manholes and scum chambers. Inside work sometimes requires contact with running motors, pumps, machinery, loud noises, poor ventilation and bad lighting. Cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, infections and broken bones may result from accidents. You must use safety equipment such as safety shoes, boots, hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, escape masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, earmuffs, ear plugs, rubber gloves and other such equipment. You are required to apply knowledge of safety procedures when working alone or with others and to use safe practices especially around high voltage, heavy equipment, chlorine gas and fast-moving machinery and to report unsafe conditions when noted.
