Description:

The position is located in the U.S. International Trade Commission, Office of Industry and Competitiveness Analysis (ICA), Advanced Technology and Machinery Division. The ideal candidate possesses the skills to obtain and analyze a broad range of product-specific trade and related information specific to advanced technology, machinery, and transportation industries in order to carry out projects and studies on a range of issues related to international trade and industry competitiveness.

You must meet the following United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position. A. Degree: Economics, that includes at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting or calculus.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics or agricultural economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:

To qualify at the GS­11 level you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS0­9 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience would include the following: performing analysis that requires a demonstrated ability to apply economic standards to the market, political and technical factors. Ability to interpretate, analyze, and evaluate of trade data as pertaining to the economics. It must have required an in-depth understanding of international trade principles and theories.

OR

3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

To qualify at the GS­12 level youmust have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS­11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience would include the following: professional experience in international trade as it relates to chemicals, or related sectors, which included substantive analysis requiring a thorough understanding investigation; planning and execution of sequential work steps; and integration of research and analysis into an assigned study.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one ­year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS­12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience would include the following: researching and analyzing issues in international trade as they relate to economic sector; recognizing and evaluating factors in domestic and foreign supply and demand to draw rational inferences based on applying econometric or other economic modeling techniques to support the technical validity of findings; and knowledge of economic, financial, and technical factors influencing trade policy, merchandise trade flows, and sector competitiveness.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through national service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
