Description:

This position is located in the Agricultural Research Service, Northeast Area, Geneva, NY.

In this position, you will support the supervisor and the staff by performing various administrative and clerical duties that support the organization's primary mission.

GS-04
General Experience: Qualifying experience for GS-04 includes one (1) year of general experience. For this position, general experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies to perform the duties of the position. General experience may be obtained in an office environment by performing the following types of tasks: using office automation equipment and software to create and edit documents for distribution to office personnel; maintaining office files; and answering telephone calls and assisting customers or clients.
OR
Education: Successful completion of two years above high-school level in any field.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.

GS-05
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience using office automation software packages and equipment to type, edit, and format letters, memoranda, reports, manuscripts, research documents, or forms; maintaining an office calendar and establishing and maintaining an office filing system(s).

Education: Successful completion of four years above high school.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience maintaining the supervisor's calendar; reviewing documents prepared for conformance with procedures, grammar, and format; and reviewing an office budget or accounting reports for accuracy.

Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
