Description:

Serves as an Electric Power Controller at the Falcon Dam Power Plant, Operations and Maintenance Division, Operations Department of the United States Section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC). Performs routine duties involving the operation of electric power generating and controlling equipment including three 10,500 KV generating units, KV tie lines and switching equipment, HP turbines, actuator governors, 50'x50' spillway gates, and other related equipment.

Minimum Qualification Requirement - To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to show your ability to perform the duties of a Electric Power Controller without more than normal supervision.

Examples of such experience include: Removing units from production, start additional units and performing normal and emergency switching operations. Receiving requests for water releases. Compute non-complex releases and making those releases. Initiate and receive contact from Mexican Section about proper switching operations, correct share of balance and water releases. Job Elements: knowledge of circuit theory and power distribution systems, and practical knowledge of electronics theory and circuits; ability to operate control panels, switches and circuit breakers of a large power distribution system having widely fluctuating power demands due to launch operations; skill to detect improper line voltages, open circuits, conditions which would require load sheds, and to sequence load blocks through load shedding schedules; knowledge of the operation of special purpose control computers and the function, purpose and location of equipment components for heating and cooling systems and related industrial equipment; knowledge of technical trade practices and skill in performing various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on hydroelectric powerhouse equipment, field interface devices, multiplexers and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer's procedures; ability to interpret engineering data, electrical and mechanical drawings, specifications and logic diagrams and to collect maintain and report technical information; knowledge of safety practices and procedures.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 44 lbs. Heavier items are lifted with the assistance of others or with appropriate weight handling equipment. The work requires periods of prolonged standing or sitting and frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, stretching, and crouching. Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders is required. Works on top of, under, and in tight compartments while performing assigned duties.

Working Conditions: Works indoors and outdoors in an electric power plant environment. Exposed to high voltages and currents, noise, vibrations, dirt, oils, grease, etc. Exposed to the possibility of electrical burns and shocks, cuts, bruises, strains, and other injuries. Follows established safety practices and procedures.

An SF-50 must be provided that verifies eligibility as stated in the Area of Consideration section.
