For additional information on direct hire opportunities with the Air Force please click here .To qualify as a Data Scientist, employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for the 1560, Data Scientist occupation: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1500/data-science-series-1560/. Basic Requirements: Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of professional data science concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced data analytics theories, principles, and concepts to weapon system evaluation, execution, and advisory services.
2. Knowledge of data analytics sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon system performance and capability gap analysis.
3. Knowledge of the assigned weapon system and support equipment sufficient to understand the interrelationships of various subsystems and how the available data is representing the actual health and key performance capability gaps of the system.
4. Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; other engineering and scientific disciplines; and software specific to performing data analytics.
5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for data analysis and to evaluate overall weapon system health and recommend the most effective allocation of resources.
