Description:

This position is located in the office of Safety Recommendations and Communications, Government Affairs Division, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in Washington, DC. The incumbent of this position will focus on providing Congress, government agencies, state and local officials and industry information about departmental programs, policies, and initiatives.

Requirements:

The GS-12 salary range starts at $99,200 - $128,956.
The GS-13 salary range starts at $117,962 - $153,354.
The above salary range includes the locality rate for the Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA area.

Newly appointed federal government employees, starting salary rate may be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which they are selected.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Reviewing congressional and state government transportation or transportation safety documents for items or issues of interest to an agency or organization (i.e., Congressional Record, Committee reports, hearing transcripts, legislative bills, and resolutions. (2) Assist with drafting and reviewing congressional and state and local legislative testimony and correspondence. (3) Assist support staff with the preparation for hearings and briefings. (4) Respond, orally and in writing to formal and informal inquiries from members of congress, state legislators, and staff to include responses to correspondence and written requests for information regarding an agency or organizations transportation operations, investigations, and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Specialized experience is defined as: (1) Knowledge of the congressional legislative process and the structure of Congress as it relates to jurisdiction over transportation programs to review and provide transportation safety recommendations on Congressional testimony, proposed bills, and legislation. (2) Compose and prepare correspondence, approved drafts of congressional testimony and maintenance of congressional mail logs and tracking systems. (3) meet with Congressional staff members to brief them on an agencies or organizations initiatives and policies. (4) provide reports to agency leadership on pending and/or proposed legislation related to transportation safety.
