This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Rosebud Agency, Superintendent - Rosebud Agency, Deputy Superintendent, Branch of Natural Resources, in Mission, South Dakota.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: ( OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions, GS-0454 and Individual Occupational Requirements)

BASIC REQUIREMENTS (IOR) FOR ALL GS-0454 GRADES:

1. Degree: range management; or a related discipline that included at least 42 semester hours in a combination of the plant, animal, and soil sciences, and natural resources management, as follows:
Range Management - at least 18 semester hours of course work in range management, including courses in such areas as basic principles of range management, range plants, range ecology, range inventories and studies, range improvements and ranch or rangeland planning. Directly Related Plant, Animal and Soil Sciences - at least 15 semester hours of directly related courses in the plant, animal and soil sciences, including at least one course in each of these three scientific areas, i.e., plant, animal, and soil sciences. Courses in such areas as plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant ecology, animal nutrition, livestock production, and soil morphology or soil classification are acceptable. Related Resources Management Studies - at least 9 semester hours of course work in related resource management subjects, including courses in such areas as wildlife management, watershed management, natural resource or agricultural economics, forestry, agronomy, forages, and outdoor recreation management. OR
2. Combination of education and experience: at least 42 semester hours of course work in the combination of plant, animal, and soil sciences and natural resources management shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following:

GS-05: Applicants who meet the basic requirement (IOR) for the GS-0454 series described above are fully qualified at the GS-5 grade level.

GS-07: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience* or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) assisting in the administration of agricultural and grazing permits; rangeland vegetation inventory and monitoring; develop range management unit plans; and rangeland improvement projects and development. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience)
OR
EDUCATION: One (1) year of successfully completed graduate-level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or equivalent) or superior academic achievement**.

GS-09: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) assisting in developing and implementing resources and use plans; assisting in conducting field surveys; assist in providing guidance and direction to Indian landowners. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience)
OR
EDUCATION: Two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education*** leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or equivalent) in a field directly related to this position.

*SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

**SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled. S.A.A. is based on (1) Class standing-applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average-applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society - membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.

***GRADUATE EDUCATION: Graduate education must be related to the occupation and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
