Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

GS-06 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized fire department or brigade; AND Responding to hazardous materials incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

GS-06 Required Certificates : In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess certificates below certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

NOTE - Prior to promotion to the next grade level, the incumbent must obtain and continue to maintain the following certifications:

Hazardous Materials Technician
Airport Firefighter
Emergency Medical Technician - Basic

GS-07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized fire department or brigade; Responding to hazardous materials incidents; AND Responding to emergencies with illness and injuries by providing basic life support. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

GS-07 Required Certificates : In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess certificates below certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

NOTE - Within 24 months of occupying the position, the incumbent must obtain and continue to maintain the following certifications:

Driver Operator - Pumper

Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Emergency Medical Care Fire Suppression Firefighting Equipment Hazardous Materials Response

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT continued:
Occasional Travel required (not more than 5%). Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations. Employees hired for the first time ("originally hired") into GS-0081 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at time of appointment. The MEA for Firefighters (FFs) is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered FF position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade of the position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.
