About the Position: Serves as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist within the District's Safety and Occupational Health Office. Serves a wide variety of high-risk operations and facilities such as lock and dam operations, floating plant operations, dredging program, etc.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-11 : To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes conductingsafety or occupational health program elements, developing, and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management ; preparing reports of findings on unhealthy conditions, hazardous operations and conditions ; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR Education:
Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-12:
To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, which includes Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards; developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
