About the Position: Incumbent will provide emergency police, fire and medical services and support to the public. Maintains accurate status of emergency response to assure prompt and accurate response.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. To qualify at the GS-04 level-

General Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. General experience is defined as: demonstrates progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03).

OR

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

To qualify at the GS-05 level-

Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience which include 1) Operating radio communication equipment to dispatch services; and 2) Receiving incoming telephone or alarm systems calls. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university with studies in a field related to this position, such as Emergency Management or Crisis & Disaster Management.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

To qualify at the GS-06 level-

Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as the following: 1) Operating electronic computer-based systems for emergency (Police, Fire, and/or EMS) dispatching management; 2) Operating multiple equipment/systems (i.e., Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, alarm systems, dispatch recording devices, multi-channel radios) during emergency situations; and 3) Disseminating information from incoming callers during emergency situations This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05) or equivalent.

To qualify at the GS-07 level-

Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience which includes the following: 1) Receiving and processing 911 calls of incoming fire alarms, emergency, and non-emergency calls for fire, medical, and police assistance; and 2) Dispatching emergency services to the scene of emergencies based on the capacity of the personnel and apparatus being dispatched; and 3) Providing information and initiating directions (emergency medical dispatch (EMD) pre-arrival instructions) to incoming callers (i.e., Cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR], the Heimlich maneuver, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06) or equivalent.
