About the Position: The Master, Derrickboat is assigned to the Heavy Capacity Fleet Unit of the Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, duty station located in Louisville, KY. As a Master Derrickboat Operator of heavy lift diesel powered floating cranes with lift capacities up to 250 tons, has overall responsibility of the operation and maintenance of the equipment assigned.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Master Derrickboat without more than normal supervision. I have operated land-based cranes or floating cranes in the maintenance of structures and have performed general lifting and duty cycle work. I have worked under the general direction of a crane or derrick boat master. I have been responsible for the inspection of cranes that I have operated. I have assisted with the preparation of critical lift plans, activity hazard analysis and completion of requisitions and periodic reports.

Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Operation of Motor Vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is normally required in steering the vessel, walking, and climbing. Somewhat greater effort is required in accomplishing housekeeping and general maintenance work. Close hand and eye coordination is required when operating controls to maneuver vessel in traffic, in confined areas, and during derrick operations. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside aboard floating plant in all types of weather. There is danger of drowning due to accident or storm (and particularly due to improper lifting or handling of heavy objects which may cause the derrick to overturn). There is further danger of injury due to blasting operations. Is subject to cuts, bruises, sprains, and broken bones. The possibility of falling or slipping on wet or icy decks and ladders is always present. Exposed to unpleasant noise, heat, and fumes produced by the engine and to dirt and grease when making minor repairs to vessel and machinery.
