About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned & operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce high-powered weaponry for cannon and howitzer systems.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Non Destructive Tester & Inspector without more than normal supervision which includes:(1) Using a knowledge of and variety of Nondestructive testing methods, inspect materials and products for structural flaws or defects; (2) Aptitude for learning and understanding an inspection process on manufactured components; and (3) Prepare inspection forms and/or reports. (4) Using knowledge of metals and metal processing methods for Nondestructive Testing duties. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Use of Measuring Instruments

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, repeated bending and occasional climbing. Moderate lifting and carrying (approximately 40 pounds) of items is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is subject to radiation from x-ray machines, fumes during penetrant inspection, and soiled clothes from splashed solutions. Incumbent is also exposed to constant noise, dust, solvents, grease, and oils. Works around machinery with moving parts and around moving objects or vehicles. Incumbent is required to wear rubber gloves during magnetic particle and liquid penetrant inspection. Work involves eyestrain during viewing of very small imperfections and examining indications of fractures. Work is generally done inside in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated with concrete or wood floors. May work in areas that are drafty, hot, poorly lit, noisy and dirty. Subject to grease, scrapes, cut and bruises. Continuously wears safety glasses and safety shoes.
