Description:

This position serves as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department in the Indian Health Service Hospital located in Claremore, Oklahoma. This position reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse in charge in the Emergency Department. The hospital offers full services, including general medicine and surgery, pediatrics, and outpatient services.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Degree and License Waiting Period of Impending Graduates:
The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and obtain the required licensure/certification/registration with 9 months of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. The eligibility date is established based on the date of application and not the closing date of the announcement or any cut-off date used for certificate of eligible candidates.

Applicants who have not completed their education requirements (but who are within the established timeframe for qualifying) must submit:
1. Documentation from the educational institution's registrar, dean or other appropriate official that attests to the applicable timeframe
for completion of the professional program/coursework, AND
2. A copy of the most recent unofficial transcript

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

AND

License: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States (Applicants must list their license number on their resume, along with the expiration date, OR submit a copy of their Nursing license that includes the expiration date. Acceptable verification of licensure includes a print out from a State Board of Nursing website [or other applicable license verification website that reflects your licensure status].).

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate the education and/or work experience listed below for the specific grade level(s) you are applying to. Your work experience must be equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the type of work and/or tasks as stated for the grade level(s) you are applying to:

GS-5: Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing with no experience;
OR
Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND have one (1) full year of professional nursing experience. This experience includes: development and implementation of a plan of care for assigned patients and providing nursing interventions based on established plan of care and evaluating effectiveness.

GS-7: Possess a bachelor's degree in Nursing AND have eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) provision**. For information on S.A.A. go to: General Schedule Qualification Policies (opm.gov)
OR
Posses a bachelor's degree in Nursing AND at least one (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: assessing and caring for the nursing needs of patients; developing plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; and basic knowledge of triaging patients.
OR
Possess a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing AND two (2) full years of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: assessing and caring for the nursing needs of patients; developing plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; and basic knowledge of triaging patients.
OR
Completion of one (1) full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program.

GS-9:
Posses a master's degree in professional nursing;
OR
One (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: assessing and caring for the nursing needs of acute moderately to severely ill patients as assigned; developing plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; operating complex medical equipment; planning with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.

GS-10:
Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
OR
One (1) full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possess a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: providing nursing care, triaging patients, recognizing and intervening in acute life-threatening situations, cardiac and respiratory failure management in medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients in the emergency room; interpreting data about the patient's status in order to identify the patient care needed; independently planning, scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.

**If claiming eligibility for Superior Academic Achievement, candidates must provide copies of transcripts at the time of initial application. If unable to obtain transcripts, candidates must provide sufficient evidence to validate courses completed and credit hours earned. Eligibility is based on one of the following:
1. Class standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision and based
on completed courses.
2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a G.P.A. of: a.) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (''B" or better) as recorded on their
official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years
of the curriculum; or b.) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in
the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society - Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of
the national scholastic honor societies listed here Association of College Honor Societies. Official transcripts may be required after
