Description:

This position is a Aircraft Pilot, GS-2181-13, working in Bosie, Idaho, for the R9-Branch of Aviation Management.

This position is also open to status candidates under announcement R9-24-12362236-ALM-MP. You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods.

Requirements:

Only experience and education obtained by 04/08/2024 will be considered.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.

Basic Requirements:
Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the positions.

Certificates and Ratings:
For all grade levels and specializations, candidates must possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or the appropriate military rating; both meet the requirement.

Note: Candidates establishing eligibility based on military flight experience must provide official orders, forms, or logbooks showing their status as a rated military pilot, flight instructor, or flight examiner, as appropriate. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable, e.g., an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.

Flight Experience:
Candidates must demonstrate possession of the knowledge and skills required for the work by meeting certain minimum flight hour requirements, including recent flight experience. The categories in which candidates are required to demonstrate proficiency relate to (1) the general knowledge and skills to pilot the aircraft, and (2) the specific knowledge and skills related to the particular position being filled. Only that flight experience that is directly related to the work of the position is required for purposes of establishing minimum eligibility.

Minimum Flight Hour Requirements:
Candidates must have completed at least 1500 hours of total flight time; which includes at least 250 hours of flight time as a Pilot-in-Command; at least 75 hours of night flying; AND at least 100 hours of flying time within the last 12 months. In addition, must have at least 75 hours of instruments flight time and at least 10 of these hours were logged in actual instrument weather.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
In addition to the minimum eligibility requirements listed above, you must possess the following specialized experience to qualify at the GS-13 level:

One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your knowledge and experience of aviation regulations used to assess aviation resources in order to advise and participate in the development of aviation policy. Examples of specialized experience in providing guidance regarding aviation safety compliance; making recommending to Senior Aviation Managers regarding aviation accident prevention policy, procedures, and practices. Providing aviation instructions and evaluations to aircraft pilots. Must demonstrate experience flying single-engine aircraft, low level, where flight is conducted less than 500 feet above from the ground. (Note - There is a preference for Kodiak K-100 qualified with 100 hours of flight experience and also for Aircraft qualifications in C-206 and CC-18. Should you have this experience please specify this in your resume.)

NOTE: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
