Job Description:The Director of Specialized Instructional Programs is responsible for assisting the executive director with planning, administering, and directing the division's special education services. Position includes managing program project plans; assisting with budget development; and supervising assigned departmental personnel. Individual shall coordinate with other departments in providing leadership, development and management of specialized instruction in schools.
Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in Special
Certificates/Licenses: Postgraduate Professional License and Endorsement in
Administration and Supervision, PreK-12 required.
Experience : At least 5 years of supervisory experience required.

- Possess the essential skills to work collaboratively with school division personnel to implement and monitor special education services.
- Ability to work in a supportive, collaborative role with central office and school based administration.
- Ability to interface with all other departments to coordinate reciprocal services for achieving departmental goals.
- Strong management, supervisory and problem solving skills.
Essential Functions:
- Provide guidance and leadership to assigned central office personnel regarding implementation of special education services for students with disabilities ages 2-22.
- Assist with budget development and implementation for areas of direction supervision.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned staff members relative to assigned responsibilities.
- Assist the executive director with monitoring short and long term departmental goals to support the school division strategic plan.
- Involve personnel in continuous improvement through self-evaluation and goal setting.
- Supervise the provision of K-12 Special Education Supports and services to include best practices for: Co-Teaching, Targeted Reading and Math Interventions, Specially Designed Instruction, Assistive Technology, Data Collection and IEP Goal Progress Monitoring.
- Supervise ACPS Preschool Child Find process including intervention, screening, evaluation and eligibility processes.
- Supervise Career and Transition Planning and Programming for Students with Disabilities.
- Supervise the provision of K-12 Special Education Supports and Services for students who are Blind or Visually Impaired or Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Supervise ACPS Compliance with the Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities in the State of Virginia.
- Supervise the provision of Comprehensive Early Intervening Services (CEIS) to address over identification of students with disabilities based on race in specific eligibility categories.
Clearances:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance:
- Must follow safety and health protocols.
