Description:

Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Survey Technician. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Duty Location: Boise, Idaho

This position is concurrently open to Merit Promotion eligibles under Announcement Number BOR-CPN-24-12299223-DE-OPM.

Requirements:

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, a copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

GS-07:
Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing 2 of the 3 following tasks: (1) reading and interpret plan sheets and map sheets containing project data, keep clear, concise and neat field notes; (2) assisting in performing site visits to determine surveying needs; and (3) utilizing computers and computer applications in the preparation of deliverables.

B. Education: successfully completed one (1) full year of graduate level education in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. (NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts)

C. Combination of Experience and Education: successfully completed a combination of education and experience as described above that, when converted to percentages, equal at least 100% of the total requirement. When combining education with experience, first determine your total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine your experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify this grade level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education. (NOTE: You MUST submit a copy of your transcripts)

GS-08:
Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing 2 of the 3 following tasks: (1) conducting horizontal and vertical surveys using survey equipment; (2) operating sighting instruments and electronic distance measuring equipment for conducting surveys; and (3) evaluating survey evidence in the field to restore previous surveys.

Education: successfully completed two (2) full year of graduate level education in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. C. Combination of Experience and Education: successfully completed a combination of education and experience as described above that, when converted to percentages, equal at least 100% of the total requirement. GS-09:
Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing 2 of the 3 following tasks: 1) operating advance surveying equipment such as GPS, mapping platforms, and/or prepare comprehensive reports of surveys; 2) Assisting in the application of a wide range of surveying methods, concepts, principles, and techniques in conducting field surveys; and 3) planning, directing, and conducting topographic and engineering surveys to support engineering, environmental, monitoring and planning projects.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).
One year at the GS-06 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level.
One year at the GS-07 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level.
One year at the GS-08 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.
You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 04/12/2024.
