Description:
This position is located in Nursing Service, Boise VA Medical Center. This position provides support for operating room surgical team and provides assistance to the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Functions as a primary scrub person responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures; Observes and responds promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time; Assists in training residents, medical students, nursing students, operating room technology students, and new Operating Room (OR), staff in the operation of equipment, sterile technique, handling of instruments, and OR procedures to include the scrub role in surgical procedures; Knowledge of sterile technique, sterilization chemical indicators, packaging, storage, shelf life, and rotation of sterile supplies; must possess knowledge of a wide variety of complex surgical procedures and possible complications in order to prepare for the procedure; Plans and discusses procedures with surgical professionals to determine proper positioning and assurances all supplies/equipment are available.
Preferred Experience: 10 years of current surgical scrub experience. Be a Certified Surgical Technician. Experience in general surgery and orthopedic spine procedures. Must be a graduate of a surgical technician program.
