This position is located with the BLM Fire & Aviation Directorate, Division of Fire Ops, Preparedness & Suppression Support Branch located at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), in Boise, Idaho. Area information can be found at https://www.boisechamber.org/

Specialized Experience:

For GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: work completed within a wildland fire organization that involved providing suppression, logistical, or material support. Additionally, candidates should have experience performing general office duties, including operating office equipment such as computer hardware and software programs, data facsimile transmission equipment, electronic calculators, and copy machines. Moreover, they should also have experience in training others to use office equipment. Familiarity with the Interagency Cache Business System (ICBS), BLM Collections and Business Systems (CBS), Financial Business Management System (FBMS), and National Fire Equipment System (NFES) or equivalent systems is also required. Candidates should be able to reference policies and guides and incorporate them into decision-making processes that ensure sound business practices. They should be able to analyze complex problems, develop alternative solutions, and effectively present and implement oral and written recommendations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.

Physical Demands: This work involves a combination of sedentary and physically active work. The work requires some standing, stooping, bending, and walking on level and potentially uneven terrain. The incumbent often lifts and carries loads and or objects up to 40 pounds, works long hours on short notice or shifts of 12 hours for extended periods. Extended work hours with minimum time off, during periods of peak incident activity and the necessity to work at a high rate of accuracy and efficiency, creating high physical and emotional demands. Working from a seated position more than eight hours may cause physical discomfort such as eye strain and postural distress due to the
long hours spent working at computer terminal locations.

Work Environment: The incumbent is required to work in an office setting, on the warehouse floor. The work environment involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks, discomforts, and unpleasantness such as: high noise levels, smoke, and hazardous materials, dust and auto exhaust; high winds and high or low temperatures range from -50 to 90F, and must be capable of performing duties outdoors in extreme heat without shade, heavy thunderstorms, and freezing adverse weather conditions; flammable liquids; and heights up to 30 feet above the ground. The incumbent must apply a wide range of safety precautions under uncontrolled conditions and must use protective personal equipment and gear, as necessary. Occasional travel by automobile or airline is required.
